We here in California (well, I can’t speak for the rest, but the Bay Area at least) have been having a solidly wet and chilly winter (for the first time in YEARS!) which I have been enormously enjoying. However, it does make shooting outdoors a little more challenging. That’s why Carly, Jesse and I were so thrilled to catch a break in the rain for their engagement shoot at Big Basin State Park in Santa Cruz. The roads were thankfully cleared and we were able to make it to the park, only to find that it was completely jam packed full of people! After some searching, we found a parking spot and set out on a bit of a walk. From climbing down muddy slopes to sitting on damp logs, Carly and Jesse were game for everything and laughed the whole time. It’s always so sweet for me to get to capture a couple of people who just enjoy being with each other and making each other laugh. We did a bit of walking through the muddy park, climbed around and found some sunny and beautiful spots (and no one slipped and fell backwards down a cliff while trying to take a photo….although that totally would have happened if Jesse hadn’t caught me. Yep, still embarrassed about that one. ) Finally, on our way back, we caught the bright last rays of sun and an incredible vista on Skyline. Overall, we had a blast, and I’m glad for a chance to capture their joy with each other (and can’t wait for the wedding in September!).
