About a year ago Lana and Garret booked me to do their engagement shoot. We talked back and forth for a bit and planned a fun outdoor engagement shoot for them in the snowy forests around Lake Tahoe. When you're coming up for a day trip to the snow from San Jose, you never really know what you're going to find. We had to do a lot of research about best places to go, hope for the right weather and a good amount of snow but not so much that the roads closed.
The date we had planned on looked like it was going to be beautifully snowy, but that meant we might encounter some unpredictable weather and road conditions driving up. I was super excited but really wanted my husband Sean to join because he's a pro at dealing with weird roads, chains, and contingency plans. Lana and Garret very kindly said I was welcome to bring the whole family - so that's what I did. At this point in time my son Teddy was 1.5 years old, and we also had our two malamutes Shadow and Luna. We made an adventure day of it and had so much fun.
It was raining at the base of the mountains, and as we drove up we got to watch it change from rain, to sleet, to snow. The burms were super tall so we had to climb up out of the road on top of the snow pack. We all wore snow shoes to get around (an engagement shoot first for me). I had a blast capturing Lana and Garret frolicking in the snow and my husband Sean was a champ wrangling the toddler. Of course the dogs had the time of their lives.
This was my favorite kind of engagement shoot - adventure, fun, love and photography in a beautiful, magical setting. This coming week I get to photograph Lana and Garret's wedding, and I am so excited to capture their love one more time!
